Coding Class 1.0 nurtures young learners in programming and electronics
The IEEE Education Society (Edusoc) Malaysia Chapter co-organized a STEM activity at SJKT Kangar on 13th January 2025 to inspire young minds in the field of programming and electronics. The Coding 1.0 event served as an introductory short course designed to introduce school students to fundamental programming concepts.
During the session, students had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using the WiFi Uno-based ESP8266 microcontroller. They explored basic coding principles and learned how to write simple programs to interact with the hardware, fostering their understanding of embedded systems and IoT applications. The event has been collaborated with the IEEE Electron Device Society (EDS) Malaysia Chapter.
A total of 20 students actively participated in the workshop.
Keywords: Basic programming
Achievements
The students had the opportunity to engage in practical exercises that enhanced their problem-solving and computational thinking skills. This initiative aimed to spark their interest in STEM fields and equip them with essential coding knowledge, setting the foundation for future learning in technology and engineering.
Congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Thennarasan Sabapathy and team for his success with the significant event in SJKT Kangar, 01000 Kangar, Perlis

Learning never ends, all students obtained meaningful knowledge in Coding Class 1.0 program.
Significant Talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Educators: Practical Applications to Enhance Teaching
The Webinar Series, entitled “AI for Educators: Practical Applications to Enhance Teaching,” was organised by the IEEE Education Society Malaysia Section on Thursday, 24th April 2025. The sharing has been conducted by Dr. Nurzal Effiyana binti Ghazali from the Centre for Engineering Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), beginning from 3.00 to 4.00 pm via CISCO Webex Meet.
In this session, the speaker demonstrated to educators how to apply Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and ClassPoint to make classes more engaging, interactive, and student-centered. In this regard. The speaker also delivered the practical examples from her classroom experience in designing activities, formative assessments, and learning experiences using proven educational principles like Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Active Learning, the Book-End Approach, and the How People Learn (HPL) framework.
Moreover, some of the challenges GenAI brings into the classroom and methods to make it work in the context with simple and meaningful strategies have been explored. Therefore, all users, whether still new to AI, gained fresh ideas. In this session, we offered practical ways to use AI for formative feedback, personalized learning, and preparing students to become creators, connectors, and critical thinkers in the era of Society 5.0.

Outstanding Sharing on Energy Security through Energy Resilience Assessment (ERA)
A significant session on establishing energy security on the fresh boulevard was held at the Al-Haytham Room, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. The topic of Energy Resilience Assessment (ERA) has been chosen for a webinar sharing on 16th May 2025, Friday, delivered by Ir. Dr. Nurfadzilah binti Ahmad, Head of Strategic and Corporate, UiTM Solar Research Institute (SRI).
The session was both informative and enlightening, serving as a safeguard for diversifying energy sources and adapting to global energy trends. Moreover, the ERA mechanism can fulfil the demand of cyber threats protection, climate risks mitigation and infrastructure robustness for energy resilience.
Congratulations to Ir. Dr. Nurfadzilah Ahmad and the IEEE Education Society Malaysia Chapter as the organizer for the excellent effort to initiate this resilient energy system program.
